The Ariege has an amazing diversity and abundance of both permanent resident birds and summer visitors.  Spring brings  the arrival of the summer migrants includes Shrikes, Hoopoe, Bee-eaters, Black Kites plus the more common European wide visitors such as Swallows and Swifts.  In late summer you can observe flocks of Kites preparing to head south plus we have observed Rollers in August for the past 2 years.  There are a huge number of birds of prey; owls, large raptors, falcons, vultures, including numerous Griffons, plus occasional Egyptian and Bearded Vultures.

Add to this collection Roe and Red Deer, Wild Boar, Fox, Badger, Pine Martin, Red Squirrel and even a very occasional Brown Bear, plus a myriad of butterflies, lizards, insects and bats, the Ariege offers a wonderful opportunity to see many of Europe's finest wildlife.
